Bot Traffic
Also known as: Invalid Traffic, Non-Human Traffic
Bot traffic is non-human website activity from crawlers, scrapers, and automated scripts that inflates analytics and wastes ad budget.
What it actually means
Bot traffic is any visit generated by software rather than a person — search engine crawlers, scrapers harvesting content, uptime monitors, and malicious scripts committing click fraud. Some of it is benign and necessary, but unfiltered bots distort every number you rely on: they inflate visits, crater conversion rates, and can burn paid budget on clicks no human ever made. Good analytics setups filter known bots automatically and flag suspicious patterns like hundreds of instant-bounce visits from one data center. If your traffic spikes but leads don't move, checking for bots should be the first diagnostic, not the last.
A local business seeing 500 'visitors' but zero calls is often looking at bots, not buyers. Filtering them out shows the real, smaller number your ads actually deliver — and keeps your conversion rate honest.
