Local Pack
Also known as: Map Pack, Google 3-Pack
The local pack is the block of three map-pinned business listings Google shows for searches with local intent, above the regular organic results.
What it actually means
Search anything with local intent — 'dentist near me,' 'best tacos downtown' — and Google answers with a map and three business listings before any normal website results. That block is the local pack, and it captures a huge share of clicks and calls for local queries; many searchers never scroll past it. Ranking in it depends on three factors Google states openly: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher), and prominence (reviews, ratings, citations, and overall reputation). The work of local pack ranking is almost entirely Google Business Profile optimization, review generation, and consistent business information across the web.
For most local businesses, appearing in the local pack for your main service is worth more than ranking #1 organically — it's the map with the phone button, shown at the moment someone nearby is ready to buy.
