Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Also known as: GA4, Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is Google's free analytics platform that tracks who visits your website, where they came from, and what they do there.
What it actually means
GA4 is the current generation of Google Analytics, built around events rather than pageviews and designed for a privacy-constrained web. It shows traffic sources, user behavior, and conversions across your site, and serves as the independent scorekeeper alongside ad-platform dashboards, which grade their own homework. Meta will claim a conversion and Google Ads will claim the same one; GA4 gives you a third view for reconciling them. Its default attribution differs from the ad platforms', so numbers rarely match exactly — the value is in trends and cross-checks, not decimal agreement. Paired with clean UTM tagging, it answers where results genuinely come from.
GA4 is free and answers the local owner's core question — 'is my website traffic actually turning into calls and forms, and from which source?' — without taking any platform's word for it.
